Rain and Teeth

A rough week of sleep thanks to more teething and what seemed like a very slight cold. Sofie now has eight teeth total, four on top and bottom and one more just barely poking through on the bottom. We had rain and bad weather most of the week so we tried to keep busy indoor.

This weekend we took a trip to the California Science Center. Sofie had fun checking out the exhibits.

Her favorite part was the huge aquarium and all the fish!

17 Months Old!

A fun busy week! Sofie finally got over her cold although she has been teething badly all week and has two more teeth coming out on the bottom, right center and left canine. We had swim and gym class twice this week, had fun at Story Time where Sofie really paid attention and listened the whole time for the first time and we also had a Valentine's activity group, where Sofie made Daddy a Valentine's card. On Wednesday she turned 17 months, can't believe she's almost a year and a half. She's been learning colors this week and we are also trying to work on counting.

Sofie at our annual Swedish ladies birthday brunch, Sofie had fun and enjoyed some tasty bacon.

Sofie really loves balloons, she got this one as a Valentine's gift from aunt Margareta at our brunch.

Sofie on her first dinner date with Lincoln! We had so much fun playing in the park and then having dinner with our friends the Brunos today.

Sofie got this babydoll as her Valentine's gift from Grandma and Grandpa Warkentin. She has been really interested in baby dolls for a few weeks now and she has taken to hers immediately, carrying it around and giving it kisses non-stop.

Running Around Town

Sofie started off the week with a slight cold and what seems like another stomach bug. She was also teething bad all week and another tooth is very close to popping through on the bottom. She is walking and pretty much running everywhere. She wants to do everything on her own, definitely figuring out her independence and her vocabulary is expanding rapidly too.

Sofie has learned how to climb up the stairs using the railing rather than just crawling, still hasn't figured out going down yet though.

Sofie and Charlie are definitely interacting a lot more now. She loves to feed him her Cheerios and he loves eating them!

Daddy and Sofie went for a bike ride on Sunday down to the playground. Sofie had fun and Daddy taught her how to go down the slide all by herself!

Sofie's new favorite thing to do, is to lean her head back and take in the sunshine while she swings.

More Summer In January

Had another beautiful week and we enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible. Sofie cut one tooth and it looks as if another one may be coming up next to it, she's definitely teething a lot so I think there may be a bunch coming out all at once. She's been sleeping for longer stretches but taking a really long time to fall asleep. She caught a mild cold at the end of the week, hoping for a speedy recovery.

Sofie is really into plants and flowers, wants to pick everything on our walks.

Sofie got some new shoes, hoping she'll actually wear them, she has refused to wear any excpet one pair so far which she is about to grow out of.

Little Miss Independent

Another busy week! Sofie is cutting a new tooth, on the bottom right but by the way it's been bothering I have a feeling there's more on the way. Sofie is on a very independent streak lately, wants to do everything herself and especially wants to walk everywhere, she refuses to ride in the stroller which means walking anywhere takes extra long now!

SoCal Winter Days

We had a lot of gorgeous weather and a very fun, busy week. Sofie had her first Swim and Gym class at the YMCA on Monday, which she loved. She especially liked the gym part, which I new she would considering how much she loves to climb on everything these days! We also started back in music class again on Wednesday and hit the playground as much as possible to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather. Sofie has started in with bad teething again and is not sleeping well, but otherwise we are all finally feeling better and over our colds thankfully.

Sofie discovered walking along the barriers on the beach path, she hit an independent streak this week and wanted to walk everywhere, refusing to ride in her stroller or even the carrier.

Sofie loves slides! She is starting to get the hang of sliding down on her own, though she is so light-weight she almost goes flying off of some of the steeper ones.

On Sunday we had a playdate in the park with the Brunos and Sofie's friend Lincoln. The first thing Sofie did was run up and snag the truck Lincoln was carrying and then take off.

We took a few sunset walks with Charlie along the bluffs this weekend, Sofie had a blast running around and saying hi to people and other dogs.

We've got toys galore, this is the usual sight at the end of the day, looks like a tornado blew through!

The Girl Who Wouldn't Nap

Sofie is sixteen months old today! We've had a rough week sleep-wise, though Sofie's been doing well at night she has been having a hard time napping. Finally figured out we should push it a little later which has helped though she still refused to take one entirely twice this week and we're thinking it may be due to a new round of bad teething.

Sofie likes to imitate a lot of our actions now, she had fun "brushing" her hair with my hairbrush.

After a lot of gloomy weather, we finally got some sunshine and Sofie loved soaking it in!

Sofie is finally getting interested in trying new foods, this week she added pasta, rice and apples to her limited menu she's willing to eat.

Sofie LOVES to give kisses now, which Daddy and I really love getting too!

She's also really into climbing now and really likes to get up on the couch and flop around.

A Brand New Year!

Sofie had another decent night and started the new year this morning playing a rousing game or "hi!" and "bye!", one of her favorite things to do, she runs out of the room saying bye then comes back in arms flung back saying hi. Finally had some nice weather today and we spent the morning at the beach playground. Sofie took a short nap and then we took a long walk with Charlie in the neighborhood. Sofie's cough seemed slightly better today, so hopefully she's on the mend.

It's hard to believe it's been a whole year since we started this blog, we took a trip down memory lane and checked out the posts from the year, it's amazing to see how much Sofie has changed and grown in just a year. For 2011 we've decided to scale back the blog a little bit, we've really enjoyed the project, but since Sofie has gotten older and we're more on the go, it's been hard to keep up with the posting. We plan to post once a week with pictures and videos compiled from the week. Looking forward to seeing Sofie continue to grow!

Happy New Year!

Finally some rest for Sofie last night and she managed a long nap today. Sofie's cough and congestion was still bad today though. We spent the morning running errands and had a quick visit with Mormor Lillemor. After Sofie's nap we took a walk with Charlie and Sofie figured out how to climb onto the couch all by herself. She rang in the new year sound asleep!

Flash Cards

Sofie's cough is sounding worse and worse, sounding exactly like the terrible one I had. This morning we went to a special music story time at the library, then Dad came home early to start the long weekend and watch the Wildcats play in the Pinstripe Bowl. Sofie's congestion was so bad that she had trouble falling asleep for a nap and only managed a very short, late afternoon one. We took a walk with Charlie and by bed she was pretty exhausted. Sofie loves checking out the flash cards we got her for Christmas, her vocabulary is expanding rapidly, her new favorite words are "up" and "no, no, no".

Sick Day

Daddy stayed home because he wasn't feeling well. Spent the day mainly relaxing, playing on the chair, and with toys. Did make a short trek to Target in the morning. Sofie has a terrible cough, hoping that both daddy and her will feel better soon. A really rough night, not sure if it was the teething or the cold that kept her up.

Bouncing Bee

Looks like our run of good sleep is over, a very rough night again last night and Sofie was teething bad and cranky and clingy all day. She also seems to have gotten the same cough I have had. We kept busy all day to try and distract her from the pain, went down to the beach playground this morning and enjoyed the beautiful weather. After a shorter nap Sofie rode in her push car down to the video store and then played a little outside when we got back. Hoping we see some more teeth soon!

Bath Time

Sofie likes to watch Daddy fill the tub up for bath time. Today was a quiet mellow day at home, I was still feeling sick and we had a rough night last night, Sofie was up for over an hour at 4:45 and when she finally fell asleep only slept about 30 minutes until she was up again and ready to nurse. The teething was bad all day and still not sure if she may be on the verge of getting sick too, hopefully not.

Asleep... At Last

It's been taking Sofie forever to fall asleep the last few nights, not sure if it's the teething, which seems to be getting bad again, she's even been biting her clothes. We spent most of the day at home, cleaning out old toys and resting since both Mom and Dad have a stomach bug. Sofie has been very talkative lately and has also been interested in trying new foods the last couple days, like apples and cucumber.

Merry Christmas!

Sofie loved checking out her new car first thing Christmas morning so we went for a ride and walked Charlie right away. She's still to young to understand what exactly is going on with the whole presents thing so we had to help her open them and of course she took the most interest in the squeaky toy for Charlie. After her nap we headed to Grandpa Ali and Grandma Lucy's with Mormor Lillemor to celebrate Christmas with the Safai family. Sofie was a little shy and tired but she had fun running around and playing and was pretty exhuasted by the time we headed home.

God Jul!

Sofie slept well again last night, she has dropped one of her three middle of the night feedings the last few nights, but she woke up really early this morning before 6am. Our Christmas Eve plans were foiled by me waking up with a stomach bug so instead of the party we planned to go to, we stayed home and set up Sofie's present from Mormor Lillemor, a sand table for outside. Sofie was pretty cranky most of the afternoon and evening, seemed like it was teething but, hoping she doesn't catch what I have too.

Is Santa Here Yet?

Another busy day running errands to get ready for Christmas. Sofie loves peering out the window, especially to watch Daddy leaving for work.

Errand Day

Sofie was up early today and tired since she got to bed very late. It was raining most of the day so we spent the morning buying groceries and Sofie helped unpack the bags at home. She took a very long nap and then we met up for a quick visit with our friend Greg.

Leaf Cruncher

Spent the morning getting ready to travel, packing up but still had some time to grab some fresh, cold air in Uncle Dewey's front yard stomping on leaves. Our flight was delayed and so by the time we finally got going Sofie fell asleep immediately for a very overdue nap and was groggy and tired for the rest of the plane ride but still did pretty well.

New Friends

Today we visited with some old friends and their kids. First this morning we saw our friend Brian Rader and his little girl Isla who is almost two, Sofie and Isla were running around and having a lot of fun together. Then after nap we went to our friends the Cherras, where we had a gathering of several friends and their young kids. Sofie enjoyed visiting and running around with the older kids.

A Merry Warkentin Christmas

Today we celebrated Christmas at Uncle Dewey's. After a very long nap, Dewey's girlfriend Anita and her children Adam and Ava joined us for Christmas dinner and presents. We had a great time, Sofie really enjoyed playing with the kids and checking out her new toys.
